02/03/2008 - Landfill-continuing delay on Veolias revised sumbission

CAMPAIGNERS have expressed frustration over the time taken for a waste management company to re-issue plans for a landfill site in Washington.

Veolia Environmental Services has been asked to take into consideration concerns raised over its previous application to create the controversial Rock Common landfill.

The deadline for the revised submission was the end of January – a month later and Veolia is still working on the application.

A spokesman for Veolia said: "A number of issues have been raised by statutory consultees regarding Veolia Environmental Service's planning application for Rock Common.

"We are currently in the process of answering the queries raised and will respond accordingly in due course."

Yet campaigners fighting the application have said it is time the company re-issues the application and sorts out the unwanted situation once and for all.
